Community Health Partnership is Proud to Stand with DACA!

Community Health Partnership of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties’ Board of Directors, and staff, stand united in opposition to the President’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. We urge our Congressional representatives to pass legislation to protect the 800,000 immigrant youth and young adults in America who benefit from this program.

“DREAMers” have been raised and educated in this country. They contribute to our workforce, our economy, and our way of life. They believe in American values and call this country home. They chose to participate in the DACA program because they believed their government would protect them — like any American.

Forcing them to leave their home, their families, and their support systems is downright cruel and attacks the core of our American fundamentals and values: keeping families together. The increasing “anti-immigrant” climate has forced families into hiding; afraid to go to work, attend school, or seek medical care; entitled medical care that can nourish these young people, prevent diseases, and save lives. The constant stress and fear that these people experience only makes the need for regular medical attention greater due to the psychological toll on their minds and bodies.

Rescinding DACA will force our young people back into the shadows. It will tear families apart and create a void in our communities reminiscent to the targeting and mistreatment of many other groups in recent history. Time and time again we, as a country, find ourselves apologizing for inhumane policies and laws that we make, then promise to learn from these mistakes. Let us avoid this step and instead pass the 2017 Dream Act and demonstrate our growth and humanity as an inclusive nation.

We cannot stand idle while our friends and neighbors have their lives uprooted.
