Community Health Partnership extends our profound condolences to the Brooks, Floyd, and Taylor families and stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and Black community.
We are outraged by the murders of Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the victimization of people of color by white supremacists, systemic racism, and xenophobia. We enjoin our fellow community-based organizations to combat racism and amplify the voices of communities of color.
These murders illustrate the pervasive racism, deeply seeded in our law enforcement and criminal justice institutions. These systems perpetuate the disproportionate rate of arrest, incarceration, and violence against communities of color, especially young Black men. Furthermore, our education and healthcare systems fail these same communities resulting in a school-to-prison pipeline and egregious health disparities that have Black and Brown people dying at a younger age and higher rate than their white counterparts.
Community Health Partnership and its members affirm our commitment to actively dismantle policies that target or ignore communities of color. We will aggressively fight for racial justice, healing, and equitable healthcare for everyone, now and in the future.
Words alone are not sufficient. Community Health Partnership commits to call out and confront racism in our government, within our communities, and in the media.
Sincerely,
Dolores Alvarado, MPH, MSW
