Community Health Partnership (CHP) is interested in promoting the health of the community at all levels.
CHP recognizes the importance of a well-rounded health team and the invaluable contributions that the Community Health Workers/Promotores de Salud Comunitaria bring to the community.
Overview
Following the guidelines of the National Council of CHW Core Consensus Standards (formerly The C3 Project) which defines the comprehensive roles, skills, and qualities of a CHW, suggests a national CHW standard, and provides ideas on CHW practice, policy, and improvement, CHP created a comprehensive course for CHWs.
This initial course targets Spanish speaking CHWs, dictated by the needs of the community and due to the fact that there are several other Community College Certificated Programs in English for the CHWs.
Through a variety of activities in topics from Public Health Principles, Health Education, Psychology, Social Work, and more, the course addresses the 10 core roles of a CHW and supports the development of the 11 CHW Skills.
The lessons and activities within the course reflect the framework of Adult Learning Theory (self-direction, experience, readiness to acquire learning, real-life application of learning, and motivation to learn) to provide participants (seasoned and new) a baseline from which to expand on their knowledge, guide future experiences, and hone their abilities as CHWs.
The next cohort will tentatively take place starting late February 2025 and ending late June of the same year. While the fourth cohort is planned to start in July 2025 and end the following October.
- Participants need to speak Spanish and be able to communicate in English.
- The sessions will be held either on a Monday/Wednesday combination or a Tuesday/Thursdays (we are in negotiation with the available locations) from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm.
- The course is offered free of charge and with the possibility of earning a stipend if the participant possesses a valid US work permit.
